Firesheep a warning for Wi-Fi users
by admin on Mar.01, 2011, under Uncategorized
Wi-Fi users should beware of a program called Firesheep.
The new program allows your information to be accessed by anyone that’s connected to your same public Wi-Fi. The information is simply posted to the hacker’s screen. They can easily access websites that require your password. That means e-mail, Facebook, MySpace, online banking, anything!
So imagine a sheep being lit on fire and then running through the herd, accidentally lighting all the other sheep on fire.
The ironic part too, is that Firesheep is a plug-in on Firefox. Eric Butler, a web-application developer, supposedly developed the software and wants to show the world the dangers of accessing unencrypted websites from public Wi-Fi locations.
But no need to worry! There is a plug-in that can be downloaded to fight Firesheep. Blacksheep can be downloaded and allows you to verify when someone is accessing your information.
So beware of where you are logging on to the Internet!
